General Tso’s Tofu

Delicious homemade General Tso’s Tofu that satisfies flavor lovers with its crispy tofu and savory sauce.

  • 1 block firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Press tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  3. Cut tofu into cubes and toss with cornstarch.
  4. Spread tofu on a baking sheet and drizzle with vegetable oil. Bake for 25-30 minutes until crispy.
  5. In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, sugar, garlic powder, ginger powder, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. Toss the baked tofu in the sauce and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  7. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, try frying the tofu instead of baking.
  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your spice preference.
