Easy Slow Cooker Chicken Shawarma Recipe

  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ground coriander
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the spices: cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Rub the spice mixture all over the chicken thighs, ensuring they’re well coated.
  3. Place the chicken in the slow cooker and drizzle with olive oil, yogurt, and lemon juice.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or high for 3-4 hours until the chicken is tender and shreds easily.
  5. Once cooked, shred the chicken with two forks and mix with the juices in the slow cooker.
  6. Serve in pita bread or over rice with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For a spicier flavor, increase the cayenne pepper.
  • Can substitute chicken breasts if preferred.
