Canadian Date Squares

A delicious treat made with oats and dates that satisfies your sweet cravings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup pitted dates, chopped
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the rolled oats, flour, and brown sugar.
  3. Add melted butter to the dry ingredients and stir until combined.
  4. Press half of the mixture into the bottom of a greased baking pan.
  5. In a saucepan, combine chopped dates and water; cook over medium heat until dates are soft.
  6. Spread the date mixture over the crust in the baking pan.
  7. Top with the remaining oat mixture and press down lightly.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Let cool before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For a vegan option, substitute butter with coconut oil.
  • These squares are great for meal prep and can be enjoyed as a snack.
